This page contains results used to validate the behavior of Galacticus in calculations related to the suppression of structure growth by baryonic physics. Specifically, the ratio of the halo mass function in models with baryons to a model without baryons (dark matter only) is computed and compared to the hydrodynamical simulations of Zheng et al. (2024).
Zheng et al. (2024) consider two models. In their "NR" model (labelled "no reionization" in the plots below), there is no intergalactic background radiation and no radiative cooling. In their "RI" model the reionization of the universe is modeled by switching on the Haardt & Madau (1996) background radiation field at \(z=6\). We mimic this behavior in Galacticus.
